'Algue'

Essay

A filigree synthetic form resembling a plant, flexible and at the same time extremely durable – taken in itself, this finely branching object has the effect of a simple decorative motif. But in fact these algae have been designed as a kind of interior decor module. Thanks to the eye-like broadenings at the tips of the branches, the individual algae can be linked to one another with tiny pins, either at one or at several points, so that a sort of tissue-like structure is created. Its possibilities range from a delicate gossamer web that can be used as a screen of plant-like material or a light curtain, to an impenetrably tangled thicket made up of several layers of joined algae, which can be used as a room partition.

Comment by the nominators:
An outstandingly poetic design that hovers in a field where naturalness and artificiality contend.
