Essay

Swiss filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard has been awarded the Swiss Confederation‘s Grand Prix Design 2010. His avant-garde works create a visual universe that has inspired an entire generation of artists, designers and critics in many different fields.

Godard has been awarded the Grand Prix Design in particular to honour his statements in the field of design. Characteristic of the filmmaker‘s oeuvre is his inquiry into visual qualities and his complex approach to a variety of design elements: colour, fashion, interior design, lighting, typography, graphics, the explicit design of sound, the relationship of language and image, experimental forms and the analysis of the workings of subjective perception.
